We hope everyone is healthy and well, in my years of being in the cleaning business I've seen many different types of carpet cleaning and many recommendations by "experts". Now myself being a certified carpet cleaner, I have witnessed a lot of misinformation to homeowners. For example i have seen so many homeowners rent or buy do it yourself carpet cleaning machines. Most of these machines instruct the user to put the carpet cleaning shampoo in the unit and shampoo the carpet. The problem with this is, this leaves soap in the carpet with no rinsing, which any dirt on your shoes stick to and makes the carpets dirtier than they originally were. Also, more times than not most homeowners over wet their carpet with these machines, which is not good for the carpet. Most carpet manufacturers require carpets to be hot water extracted to keep the warranty valid, make sure you check your carpets requirements. The reason behind this is called texture retention,if you look at a fiber of carpet it is twisted. These twists are like a coil spring on a car it gives the carpet its bounce back. The fibers are twisted and heat set in the manufacturing process. The heat from hot water extraction re-twist the fibers causing them to be tighter and have the bounce back it needs to retain its texture. We recommend highly you have this professionally done, if your here in Roanoke area, we recommend Roberts Cleaning and Restoration for your carpet care needs. I hope this has helped clear up some carpet cleaning questions. I pray everyone stays safe and well!
